We investigate insight and metacognition in non-psychotic disorders, exploring how people perceive, interpret, and think about their own mental health experiences. Our research focuses on understanding how individuals make sense of conditions such as depression and anxiety, including how they recognize their symptoms, form beliefs about their illness, and explain why it developed. We are particularly interested in how these processes shape emotional wellbeing, functional outcomes, and decisions about seeking help.
Our lab is also dedicated to understanding treatment accessibility and culturally adapting evidence-based treatments for underserved populations, with a particular focus on the Arab community. This includes developing and validating culturally appropriate psychological measures, examining barriers to help-seeking across different cultural contexts, and ensuring that mental health research reflects the diversity of the populations it aims to serve.
